The backs of my thumbs down to my wrists, and my inner forearms, hurt.
You know what sort of pain I'm talking about.
Those of you who play volleyball, that is.
Lou's company had their first ever (or first in a really long time) office picnic today, and spouses were invited. So I got clearance from work today, and headed out with him.
The weather was perfect. Thank $diety that the heat has broken. We had food first, then took a walk on a nearby beach. Then it was back up for more water, and time to hit the volleyball court, as Lou had signed us both up to play.
Only three other people were there from his work, so it was hard to field a team in the sandy pit of the volleyball court.
However, at the next court over, a number of people from Dave & Buster's, who were having their picnic as well. And they had one team available for volleyball, and another that couldn't quite get five people together. So we offered to play, and suddenly found ourselves in a tournament! Winning team would get (each) enough D&B points that would equal out to about $100! Whoo-hoo!
We won our first two games pretty easily, but we had three ringers on our five-man team. Lou and I were basically there to have fun.
We lost the third game, and then played that same team again (we had each won two games), and the last match was very close, but we lost. Ah well.
Lou and I headed back up for more water, but they were out, so we had a soda each, while I soaked my arms in the cooler full of icewater. Then, deciding that four hours of time with his coworkers and their families (most of whom he didn't know, as are over 400 employees at his office!), with two of that being on the court, was enough. We headed home.
But first, a stop at his parents' house, to give them their anniversary DVDs (Young Frankenstein and Blazing Saddles), and pick up our freebie, 1776 (Lou's parents got shipped an extra copy, so gave it to us). Now we're home, showered, slightly sunburned, still in pain (leg...muscles...seizing!), and probably not going to watch 1776 tonight (maybe Friday), as Lou wants to watch Buffy now, and then West Wing at 10:00.
Enough rambling.
