So yeah, I saw Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl.
Spoilers in the cut!
I'd go see it again, but League opens this weekend, so ...
And the trailer for Haunted Mansion? Eddie Murphy is SO going against his comic routine! Doesn't he recall his Delirious show? Black people in a haunted house? *whispered voice* "GET OUT!" "That's right, we be leaving." *shakes head* Boy, has Disney scraped the bottom of the barrel when they're doing movies based on rides.
Very fun movie. Johnny Depp chews the scenery with the best of them. Orlando Bloom is terribly swoon-worthy with his bedroom eyes subtlely undressing Elizabeth every chance they could. I'm glad they kept his arms hidden - he doesn't have the muscle to be a real blacksmith. Sorry dear, not with all those swords he supposedly made.
If I was a guy, I would so do Keira Knightley.
It was a good story, nothing great, but what can you expect when you base it on a Disney Amusement Park Ride??
I hadn't twigged to why Jack picked up the medallion, but Lou did. Made sense when I saw it happen, of course. Insurance policy. Jack Sparrow does nothing without an insurance policy these days!
Geoffrey Rush didn't have a lot to do, but he did it well.
Jonathan Pryce was wasted, but it wasn't really his movie.
Minor characters, for the most part, had well-defined personalities. The pirate with the wooden eye and his mate were hysterical.
The special effect were just awesome. The guys did a LOT of work, the moonlight effects were nearly seamless.
I see potential for a sequel. Could Will's father have still been alive? His son's blood could have ended the curse, perhaps? I mean, he was strapped to a cannon and dumped in the ocean, but the other cursed men could survive undersea, could he have as well? Just an idea.
Still, I enjoyed Pirates. Yum. Eye candy and fun. For what more can a girl ask?
