TurkeyCon 2003
Not to be confused with Turkeycon.
We drove all the way down to Cary yesterday, as our original plans to stop in Charlottesville were changed as the guy we were going to pick up couldn't make it after all (yes, that link is relevant...weather delays have caused him to have to work this week on filming in Kitty Hawk). So we drove all the way down, as we usually do. Made excellent time. In fact, with a stop for breakfast and a stop for dinner, plus a few potty breaks along the way, we made it in 14 hours. The driving weather was perfect, and the traffic was quite good. Only a couple of slow down spots and no really stop and go traffic.
Crashed early last night, as partway down the drive I noticed that my throat was rather dry. My nose was clear, so it wasn't because I was mouth breathing, so I knew I was getting sick. Drank more water but still felt icky and my bladder wasn't pleased with the pressure, so I crashed early last night.
We bought a small twin-sized aerobed for me, since the queen size one we have for both of us causes me to raise and lower six inches or more when Lou gets into or out of the bed. We cleared the space requirements with the Gaineys', and so I had my own bed and slept pretty well. I added a blanket, then another, as the night went on, but otherwise was out like a light.
We lazed about the house this morning, trying to get the two Apple laptops connected to their NetGear wireless network, with no luck (however, Googling this evening has produced this, which may solve the problem! Yay!). My Windows laptop connected eventually, though it kept trying to connect to the across the street neighbor's wireless, which while I could see it, couldn't get IP since it was password protected. But fortunately we brought Orwell down with us (the name of our AirPort base station) and got that configured with minimal difficulty.
Then we kept losing the 'net, and thankfully found out that it wasn't us after all, but nc.rr.com and an outage.
Early afternoon, I let Ruby (the dog) out and realized that it was absolutely gorgeous outside, and we all needed to get out of the house and take a walk in the beautiful air on a beautiful day. So I waited until Lou and Ryan were done with their Starcraft game (Lucinda had surrendered earlier in the game), and then I badgered people into going for a walk around the neighborhood. Bridget, Lou, Grant, Jack, myself, and Ruby all walked around the neighborhood. Tomorrow it's supposed to be as nice, so I'll likely drag Lou out again for a bit, probably sans kids as they will be in school.
After we got back, we went shopping for some of the food stuffs for the week, and got some cough drops for the throat. My nose is now stuffed up and I keep sneezing. May be the pets (they have two cats, a dog, and a severe macaw - I am VERY not a bird person), may be just different state, different allergies, may be a cold. Hopefully not worse.
I need to take some Alka Seltzer Plus cold medicine. Lou said he has some in his toiletries kit. I know I should have bought some earlier; will likely buy some tomorrow. We're doing the game stores tomorrow, when the kids aren't around.
Rumor also has it that we're going to a Ruth's Chris Steak House, sans kids, on Wednesday night. I don't know that Lou and I budgeted for that, but we'll manage! It's Ruth's Chris! Awesome steak, baby!
Even though I had a nap today (after we got back from shopping), I will likely go to bed after Alias. Jack has fled the room, as he's only seen the first season, and wants to watch the 2nd before watching the third. Wise man. So much changed in the second season, and it is out on DVD next week.
