Win some, lose some

I'm not changing my blog colors to black because of the election. I'm sticking with the Sox colors for a bit longer.

I'm upset that Bush won, that Kerry conceded, and that enough of this country believes Bush's lies to keep him in office for four more years.

But life goes on, and if anything, I think this will (I hope) mobilize even more people become activists.

Now, who do we have to put into office in four years?

It's ALIIIIIVE!

Oh look, Ian's back amongst the blogiverse! And with MT, finally!! Wheee!

Sokath, his eyes open!

Spotted linked to on my friends list on LJ, I give you a geek's eye view of the 2004 Election.

More than a "Bloke in a dress"

The Guardian has a good in-depth interview with one of my favorite comedians, Eddie Izaard. It's a good read, though I am disappointed that he really only has a cameo in Ocean's Twelve. But anything has got to be better than his role in the Avengers, for screen-time.

Traditional Non-Traditonal

We have to remember, with all the debate going on about gay marriage, that first and foremost, they are people. Not the enemy. Not bent on taking over your marriage and corrupting your sacred institution. They are simply people, wanting to do what we've been doing for years. Getting married to express their love.

Ashcroft goes, as does Evans

Like some people, I was thrilled when I heard of Ashcroft's potential (now fact) leaving.

And then he had to mention - what if the replacement is worse?

Then she had to mention the unthinkable.

I do not think he'd get confirmed, however.

And I must admit, I am amused at ***Dave's title to his post. I mourn for my good, lost comic now. *sighs* (kinda like my country)

MIT Mystery Hunt

Though I'm not sure about the "fun" of doing a Mystery Hunt in Boston in January, I thought that at least one person who reads my blog might be interested.

Too bad this can't be a do-over day

I know I've not been keeping up with my blogroll lately. I'm trying to do better, honest.

So, it was with some disappointment that I read on Peter David's blog that a show that was just getting going, in my mind, was abruptly cancelled, after filming six episodes of the now-to-never-air second season.

Now Nikki's comment to me makes much more sense. Ah well, I still want the first season DVD set.

Banished Words...if only it were true

Lake Superior State University has been making a Banished Words List for almost two decades now. The Complete List is included as well, and definitely worth a browse.

I can't wait to see what they decide to ban in 2005.

Playing with the Styles

Okay, so I'm trying the three column layout I've been meaning to get working for some time now.

Calder has replaced my mug until I can get one that fits better in the smaller sidebar.

So, what do you think, sirs?

ETA: I hosed my original index somewhere along the line. So what you see is what you get, for now!

In-jokes are now Exformation

When you've been around a person, or a group of people, for a long time, you have a lot of common experiences. When retelling those stories or recalling to the person/group the events of some day, everyone develops a bit of shorthand. A "You had to be there" sort of explanation, that only makes sense to those who were there.

For example, I can simply say "Astral Wolves" or "I am of the Dark Wood!" to my friends, and they'll know the entire context of what I'm trying to say. Or I could say "Big Damned Book of Loonies," or make a gesture with my hand passing about 6" over my head, from front to back, with a "Whoosh!" sound, and another subset of friends will smile and laugh. These, of course, are mostly gaming related anecdotes. For family, I can say to Lou "I can confirm that," or "Billy Barty," and another whole set of shared experiences are referenced.

Why do I bring this up? Because we now have a word for this shorthand, this leaving out of the story, since it's a shared experience that doesn't need repeating. With a few simple words or gestures, we know what we're talking about.

And that term is Exformation.

A little Flash for your day

I'm glad that it seems like this animation's song has finally pushed this one's out of my head.

I like that the animator used bunnies, too.

About frelling time!

According to Watch Farscape, come next Fall, Farscape will be in syndication.

While this doesn't mean I don't want the entire series on DVD, it does mean that I'll have a good chance of watching those episodes I missed while waiting for those DVDs!

Antelope escape!

It reads like a Disney movie.

Elephants rescue antelope held in boma

The only thing missing, of course, is the singing and the musical score in the background.

Serenity release moved to September 30

Just after I introduce the Gaineys to a little show called Firefly (am seriously encouraging them to get a copy of their own on DVD), and telling them the movie Serenity will be out in April, comes the news that it's been pushed back to a September 30th release date by the studio, due to an already crowded April/May release schedule for films in the same demographic.

*sighs*

I am afeared to what Doyce will have to say about this.

Template futzing & TurkeyCon stuffing

I've changed the template a little bit again, giving the content a bit more space, and removing the Red Sox coloring on the background.

As far as TurkeyCon (not to be confused with TurkeyCon) goes, we've managed to play lots of games this year, most of which have been described at Jack's blog, and watched two more episodes of Firefly last night, meaning today we need to watch Our Mrs. Reynolds and Jaynestown before we can hit the wonderful Out of Gas tomorrow. I think we can leave the rest for them to watch on their own, when they get the DVD set. Muah!

XM Radio on your PC

I should also mention that, thanks to a notice from a friend who has XM Radio, I am now listening to a three-day free trial of XM Radio on my PC.

Just the sort of thing that would make me want to get it for pay. Though I don't know if it's really worth it, but it's definitely got me listening for the rest of TurkeyCon (not to be confused with TurkeyCon). And Bob Edwards! I so miss his voice on NPR.

I don't think I'm nearly as competitive as her

Been a while since I did one of these...
