A summary of what happened during the game sessions: May 25, 2001 - Session 9 The amulet pointed west, and the next morning, the group discussed how to go about heading west. While they could return south and head further upriver, they would need to find a boat to take them that way. And they did not want to cause any more problems for riverboat captains, they decided to head overland. Jack had been to the head of the river before. A small town, Portsmouth, had been forming over the years, and could serve as a stopping point, in case the amulet was still pointing west. West beyond Porsmouth lay the mountains, a rather treacherous path if their journey continued that far. Overland, it would take the group about 4 weeks to reach the mouth of the river, provided all went well. And so they set out. Two weeks into the journey had passed uneventfully, when in the middle of one afternoon, the seven were set upon by three dragon-like creatures, each with three heads and wings. The creatures managed to get surprise on most of the group, and attacked three of them with breath weapons - one with cold and two with acid. Sana was able to resist the attack on her due to her half-celestial nature, but others were hit, and then the attack was joined in earnest. Rylan was seriously injured, but the beasts were defeated in short order. Ezhno attempted to track them back to where they came from, but after following the tracks for a short ways, it appeared they had landed and crept up to the party, or lay in wait for them, for the marks just disappeared. After healing and resting, it was back to uninterrupted travel again. About a week out of Portsmouth, signs of an old cobbled road appeared, heading directly due west. A day's worth of travel and the road disappeared again, but a day later reappeared and was definitely still in good repair. There were signs along the side of the road that a group of people had camped there recently, perhaps even the previous night. Checking the site revealed that eight people had been there, and Jack recognized remnants of pipe tobacco that was grown and sold by humans along the river area. The rest of the day's travel brought them in sight of the group, just preparing to make their own camp for the evening. No quote of the evening was recorded. |
