A summary of what happened during the game sessions: June 22, 2001 - Session 11 The evening passed with fun being had by everyone. Ivana and Margaret huddled in the corner, talking shop. The dwarven construction leader and some of his men came in for meals, and plenty of food was brought in short order. A few of the group went to speak with them as the second course was being served. Ranulf, as the leader named himself, gave them his advice. As they had said no specifics other than "west", he couldn't give them many options. There was no direct path to the west. The group could go north through the mountains to the other side, and then head west overland until they hit the next branch of the range, or they could head south slightly and hug the lower range, which headed mostly west. Ranulf also mentioned the huge inland lake to the direct west, in the middle of the mountains. While not round, it was nearly 400 miles across at its widest point. The south/west path he mentioned was going to be hilly and forested, and while not as arduous as going over the mountains, would not be easy. He also mentioned that ther were two other rivers that headed out of the mountains along the south/west route, so the group might find other settlements. Zach and Sana performed at the inn that night. He told the group that Ivana had asked them to look into the rumors of the city in the north, where the refugees were coming from, and they were leaving first thing in the morning. The rest of the evening passed uneventfully, which was a surprise for most of the group. Since Lentan, every large town or city they had stopped in, they had been attacked during the night. Watches had been set, but nothing untoward occurred. That is, until later in the morning, just after Finn's group had departed for the north. Folk in the inn were just starting to get ready for the day's work when a wailing howl was heard, a different one than the last encounter in Keysport. Jon, who had been staying in the common room, was struck with terror as were most of the townsfolk, and began to run directly through town, away from the howl. The others in the group fought off the effects, but were immediately beset upon by winged wolves. Two bounded up the stairs of the inn, where they encountered Winter and Rylan. Margaret was late in getting up, but handed out healing spells as they were needed. Rylan webbed the corridor, just missing Winter but catching both of the winged wolves. Two more began an assault out in the front of the inn, with one engaging Ezhno and the other Sana. Sana sought to fly up and attack the creature from the safety of the air, and was terribly disappointed to find that the wolves could fly as well. Jack had saved the life of a townsperson who, in his panic, had run right into the back of one of the wolves that had gone upstairs. He dispatched that wolf and then went outside to help the others. The bite of these wolves, it was discovered, was poisonous, and both Winter and Ezhno suffered under their assaults. They became weakened, feeling the life and energy drain out of them. Rylan and Margaret had made it out the window at the end of the second floor corridor, and went to help Ezhno. Rylan was attacked,, but not drained. Meanwhile, the effect of the howl wore off, and Jon realized what had happened to him. He sped back to the inn, and managed to show up just as the last of the wolves was dispatched, and sure enough, a few minutes later, the bodies of the wolves vanished. The group took a few moments to assess what had happened, and to prepare for what to do next. No quote of the evening was recorded. |
